Beeing
Beeing (2012-ongoing) ink and gouache on paper, oil on linen, canvas or wood
Beeing is an ongoing series of oil paintings on linen and works on paper that traces its origins to the attic of Schwartz’s childhood home, where she became transfixed by the bees’ flight and sound. Through her synesthesia, their buzzing filled her with vivid, shifting images—sensory experiences where sound and sight fused in real time. As a child, she believed the bees were automatons sent from far beyond the human world. When they stopped moving, she’d cradle them in her palms, marveling at their intricate design up close.
Bees have followed Schwartz ever since, inhabiting her creative spaces and finding their way into her work. In recent years, as bee populations face growing threats in the physical world, this body of work has expanded, reflecting both a personal connection and a broader environmental resonance.
