Birdwalk (2015- ongoing) sumi ink and gouache on Murillo

Birdwalk is a series that began in 2015, emerging unexpectedly during Schwartz’s morning writing practice. She describes how the birds began to walk between her words, gradually overtaking the pages of her journal and eventually migrating onto the walls of her studio.

Over the years, these birds have continued their quiet takeover, evolving in form and presence. They’ve danced their way into a double helix presented to Jim Watson at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and found their way to the New York City Ballet, embodying both movement and transformation across disciplines and spaces.
