Synaesthesia Drawings of the Voice of RICHARD FEYMAN

Synesthesia Drawings of the Voice of Richard Feynman (2024-ongoing) sumi ink, walnut ink on murillo

Synesthesia Drawings of the Voice of Richard Feynman are sensory recordings cultivated through the experience of listening to the renowned physicist’s lectures. Feynman’s voice carries a complex layering that sets these drawings apart. Feynman's voice carries a dynamic force, full of curiosity and spark, manifesting in looping ovals, textures of rust, and sudden sparks of electrified mauve and purple. His words form thought-structures in motion, visual echoes of a mind at play. For Schwartz, sound moves through space in three-dimensional mobiles of color and form.

She describes her process as “butterfly-netting” the most beautiful-looking sounds and pinning them to paper, preserving their fleeting presence in static form. Originally begun as a commission for a private collector, this series has become one of Schwartz’s favorites for its intricate structure and playful whimsy, capturing the dynamic movement and unexpected color shifts embedded within Feynman’s voice.

Additional synesthesia series emerge from the sensory experiences of Chopin’s Nocturnes, Luxembourg Gardens, the voices of Alan Watts, Oliver Sacks, James Baldwin, and the music of Mozart
