year belly

Yearbelly (2007–ongoing) found material, twine, wire, wood

Yearbelly evolved from the series Lay Down Dream, as Jessica Anne Schwartz grew increasingly fascinated by the dialogue between light, resin, and form. In these works, raw materials—found objects entwined with fiberglass resin—narrate the fluid passage of time, refracted and digested through light. Schwartz speaks of a "cellular intuition" toward the materials, a connection that echoes through generations of familial tradesmen.

Exploring the alchemy of catalysts, Schwartz reflects on how subtle shifts affect not only the curing of resin but also the perception of time and memory. Unlike Lay Down Dream, which often embraces pigment, Yearbelly holds light within, unveiling an essence both fragile and profound. The works churn and digest time itself, revealing what remains suspended within their translucent layers.
