Social Practice

2015 –  present   Paintings on Envelopes

Paintings on Envelopes for the IRS, NY State Taxes, Art Studio and Apartment New York, NY. I paint the envelopes I send my payment dues for the people on the other end to enjoy. I include personal letters and a self-addressed envelope. I have received letters back.

2015 – present   Joan’s Plant Orphanage New York, NY A community place I created on the 6th floor of 526 W26th Street for people to sit and meet and connect. It is dedicated to my friend Joan and home to abandoned plants I have rescued from dumpsters and curbs.

2015   Fishing for Friends When I first moved from San Francisco to New York I went "fishing for friends" from the window of my new studio in Chelsea. I painted a bird on a sheet of music attached it to a chocolate bar and lowered it down by a line to the open window below. Soon the bait was takenand we engaged in exchanging gifts between floors.

2000 -- 2014 Miwok Village Community Garden Oakland, CA  Founded and established a community garden in my front yard for people living in my neighborhood. It brought neighbors together and served as a home for small community events.

2000 – present  Mentoring Mentoring new and continuing artists San Francisco, CA, and New York, NY. I have enjoyed mentoring beginning and continuing artists for over twenty years. I mentor a large range of levels and ages. Mentoring is very enriching to my practice and my way of life.
